When we took it out of the box on Christmas morning it didn't work-- which made for one sad little girl-- but it just needed new batteries (watch batteries that cost more then the phone itself, ugh!) and it worked fine after that. She loves this phone and takes it just about everywhere. We were not pleased at all that we had to replace the batteries from the get go, but our daughter does truly love this toy.
